Rough Sketches
Started with the letter SAO and tried out some different styles. When I liked one, I tried writing some words and different combinations of letters. Then, I went on to construct a rough alphabet, experimenting with different iterations.
Final Designs
Digital Versions (Illustrator)
This is the process of digitisation. As you can see, there are only a few core building blocks from which the entire font was created, to preserve simplicity and keep consistency. This was done in adobe illustrator, with a grid similar to the original graph paper.
Type Creation (Font Forge)
Sample of Type Face
Vahana was created for the Morisawa Type Design Competition 2019. As per the rules, I cannot share the Type face as a downloadable file, or a sample of all the characters, until the results are announced in May 2019. Until then, this is a sample of what it is. Vahana was designed to be a display font, used in a large size for words and phrases. It can be used for paragraphs and general use too, if needed.
